A Little Halloween Signage

While I was browsing one of my favorite blogs, RED HEN HOME, I came across her post where she created the sign below. I thought it was just adorable and decided to try and create my own.

First to find a board. I found a 15×36 inch board in the basement that I had purchased to make a sign for a friend. I decided to give her one from my kitchen when we moved instead so that left me with this board. I had drilled holes in the side of it because originally that was going to be the top of the board. I just filled those holes in with wood putty and then sanded over them when they were dry. The cost for the board was between $5-$10 dollars if I remember correctly and I purchased it at Lowe’s. Since the board was already painted red on one side, I decided to use the back which was still in it’s natural state. I painted the board lime green. Sort of a monstery green. Is monstery even a word? Of course I forgot to take a picture of the board before I started painting it (ADD strikes again!) but I did manage to remember before I painted the entire board. Here is what it looked like halfway painted.

Once the paint had dried, I taped off the edges of the board to create a border. I did this on all edges of the board.

While I waited for it to dry, I unpacked my Cricut, which was still packed away in the basement from the move. After choosing a font, I printed out my letters and applied them to the board.

Next, I needed a graphic of a witch. I went where all bloggers in the know go – to THE GRAPHICS FAIRY. She has so many awesome graphics. You can almost always find what you are looking for there. I found this adorable witch silhouetted by the moon and a bat.

I printed the graphic out on my printer. Since I only wanted the outline of the witch, I cut out the witch and discarded the rest of the graphic. I taped her to the board and traced around her in pencil.

Now it was ready for the black paint. I painted directly over the letters that I had applied and up to the inside of the tape. I painted around the witch since I didn’t use sticky paper to apply her. Then I left it to dry.

Once the black paint had dried, I carefully removed the tape and the letters from the board. And, wa-la, I had my new sign for Halloween!
