Halloween Tree Part 2

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

At Christmas, I am a sucker for Old World Christmas Ornaments.  I just love how, well, “old” they look.  I guess they remind me of the Christmas ornaments that my parents had from when I was just a little girl.  They have such a vintage look about them.  They could pass for family heirlooms.  They truly are a work of art.

What are Old World Christmas Ornaments you ask? Old World Christmas was founded by Tim and Beth Merk in 1979.  They are credited with revitalizing the art of mouth-blown fine glass ornaments.  Each figural glass ornament that is produced for The Merck Family’s Old World Christmas is hand crafted in age-old tradition using the same techniques that originated in the 1800′s.  Molten glass is mouth-blown into finely carved molds, before a hot solution of liquid silver is poured inside.  Each ornament is then hand-painted and glittered in a series of labor-intensive steps to achieve the beautiful creations.

I have collected the Christmas ornaments for about eight years now.  Every Christmas I add two or three to  my collection.  They are beautiful and each one has special meaning to me.  And, they are not that expensive.  They are usually in the $10-$15 dollar range depending on the size.  Not bad if you “collect” them rather than buying them all at once.  It is always so hard to decide which ones will come home with me.

Those of you who read my last post, Halloween Tree Part 1, know that I recently made a Halloween tree from a branch that I found in the backyard, some leftover spray paint, left over Plaster of Paris and a witches cauldron.  It came out looking like this.

The roll of paper towels was to prop the tree up while it was drying.  Definitely not part of the decorating scheme! lol

Now for the fun part – decorating.  I went to Michael’s and purchased a string of miniature lights and strung them on the tree.  I also purchased three black crows at Michael’s (I just can’t stay away) for 2.99 each and clipped them onto the tree.

Next I headed to Dollar Tree and purchased a string of skeletons.  They were meant to be garland but I cut them apart and then used the string to make loops and hung them on the tree.

Cute enough but I still felt like it was missing something.  I wanted something that would make it my own.  Something that would make it feel more personal and that I would use for years to come.  That’s what made me think of the Old World Christmas Ornaments.  I love them on my Christmas tree why not on my Halloween tree?  Surely they make Halloween ornaments too?!!?  I googled OWC and Halloween. Bingo!  I found them at Christmas Treasures.com.

Of course, I couldn’t resist purchasing some for my homemade tree even though I AM ON A T-I-G-H-T BUDGET.  Below are the ornaments that I purchased for Halloween.  Hope my dear darling hubby doesn’t read this (otherwise I’ll be in some trouble)  Here is a look at the ornaments I purchased.  I’ll consider them a house warming gift to myself. Ha!

Clip on Bat
Grinning Cat
Patches the Ghost

Pumpkin Boy
Devil Head
I also purchased some mini ornaments on E-bay that were also crafted by Old World Christmas.   They where just too cute to pass up.
Mini Halloween Assortment
Aren’t they all so adorable?!  The pictures really don’t do them justice.  They are so beautiful in person.  I have to say, it was so hard to decide which ones to get.
Stay tuned to the blog for the big reveal of the Halloween tree.  Until then, happy haunting!
