Family Frame
As promised, I have a new project for you today. I spent most of the day fighting with my computer so it has taken me a while to get this post put together. My computer wants to go super slow, freeze up on me all together or freeze in the middle of me editing pictures so as a result, none of my pictures are watermarked today. If you only knew how frustrated I am right now! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, on to the project. This is an easy project that is pretty quick to do. Some of the supplies you will have on hand and some you might have to pick up.
Today’s Proect is a Frame that I put together in about an hour and a half not including drying time.
For today’s project you will need:
A 18 X 12 Paint Grade Board. I bought a 36 X 12 Board at Lowe’s and had it cut in half. It’s not the prettiest wood but your going to paint it so it doesn’t matter and it’s cheaper!
A black frame. I picked mine up from Walmart for $3.00
White craft paint.
Brown craft paint.
Wood Stain. I just used what I had on hand from old projects.
Velcro sticky tape.
I started by painting my board white on the front, back and all four sides.
After the white paint had dried, I applied a coat of stain (mine was a mix of left over stains that I had combined). I wiped it on and then wiped it off with a clean rag.
While the stain was drying, I took the black frame and painted it white.
Once the frame and the board were dry, I applied the velcro strips to both the back of the frame and the front side of the board. The velcro will hold the frame on the board. When the pictures need to be changed in the frame, you simply pull the frame off the board change the pictures and reapply to the velcro on the board.
As a finishing touch, I added the word Family at the bottom of the board.
One way I like to transfer fonts onto wood that is super easy is to apply pencil to the back of the print out as shown in the picture. Once you have covered the font, turn the picture over and trace around the font.
Remove the print out and the font should have transferred on the to wood or whatever you are transferring it to.
After I transfer the outline to the wood, I usually take a sharpie that is the same color as the paint that I am going to paint the wording and trace around the pencil outline. It just seems to make the outline look sharper or more crisp to me. Once I have completed these steps, I am finally ready to paint. I simply filled in the outline of the font with the brown paint and I was done.
I just added two pictures from our family trip to Florida last year and I have a great family frame with wonderful family memories!
