Kool Aid Cookies; Conversation Hearts

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Well it is almost Valentine’s day and I have one or two more posts to share with ya.  I actually made these in the middle of last month, but y’all know me by now, it can take some time to post.  Anyway, I thought it would be fun to make some colorful, flavored sugar cookies to cut and decorate into conversation hearts.  And I am getting these out there not a day to late.

These cookies would be great in a clear bag tied up with a little ribbon for your kids Valentine’s this year!

Conversation Heart Kool Aid Cookies

3 Cups Flour 1 large egg
1 tsp. Baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 cup butter (softened) Kool aid in different flavors (see instructions below)
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 Tbsp. milk divided
Food coloring (optional depending on Kool aid)

Preheat oven to 375.  In a mixing bowl combine the flour, and baking powder.  Set Aside.

In another bowl or stand mixer beat the butter and sugar together.  Add the egg, stir to combine, add the vanilla.  Slowly add the flour mixture.

Separate the mixer into 3 even parts.

Return one of the sections to the mixer.  Add 1 tsp. of milk and 1/3 tsp. of Kool aid in your choice of flavor.   Stir to combine, add 1-2 drops of similar food coloring only if the color is not vibrant enough.  Wrap in plastic wrap or small Ziploc bag in fridge for 1 hour.

Remove dough from fridge on a sheet of parchment paper, roll out your dough until about 1/4 inch thick.  Cut dough a cookie cutter and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.  Bake at 375 for about 11-12 minutes.   Makes 2-3 dozen.

When baked and cooled remove from oven and decorate with writing icing.  (I used the kind you purchase, but I am sure you could make royal icing and color it if you prefer to make it!)

What do you think?

This cookie dough is also fun to use as play dough with the kiddos.  If you are super squeamish about the egg (cuz yes they will eat it) you could try replacing it with flax.  Just combine 1 Tbsp. ground flax with 3 Tbsp. water and use instead of an egg.  I will have to try this next time!
