I have more crazy paintings ideas on my brain, you guys. I recently painted our bathroom cabinets (I’ll post photos of that project soon!), and now am considering painting our kitchen cabinets. From the beginning, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Sofielund cabinets from Ikea that were installed in our house. I feel bad, because they are brand new, but, it is what it is. I always wanted white kitchen cabinets, and it’s what I figured I would be putting into (or painting myself) our new house. Except, we ended up buying a new-build house, and so that idea was flip flopped. Which is totally fine, and I don’t dislike our cabinets, I just prefer the look of having all white. It’s been 6 months since we moved in, so I’m now itching to change some things that I originally said that I would most likely change. Jordan’s down with it, so it’s all good.
Here’s what our kitchen cabinets look like:
I could of course just paint rs will them white. I recently discovered Zinsser’s primer for laminate, and it is amazing on that weird Ikea plastic that they make everything out of. But, I know that they’ll still look quite modern and super flat with just a white coat of paint. So, I’m considering adding trim? I did some research, and found quite a few DIY tutorials of how to add trim to your cabinet. I knew that I would have to keep the profile still very flat, so that the cabinet doors will open and close next to each other, so that is something to consider.
Anyway, my favorite type of cabinet is a shaker style. Here are some favorite cabinet kitchen photos:
So, the common denominator is that they are still clean lines – which I have, and love, so that is good! haha. But, a little more cozy. And, I know these kitchens have gray cabinets and white cabinets – I like both, but would probably do white. Maybe even replace a couple doors with glass doors?
I looked into the option of replacing the fronts with one of Ikea’s white door options, but that would still be $$$. We have more than 30 doors. I’m going to do more research before I pull the trigger, and this probably won’t happen for a couple more months, but I have been doing all this research and of course I had to share it here. You people understand me! Haha.
This is the place where I saw the guy added shaker-style trim to his cabinets. Im thinking I could do this, then paint all white.
See?
We’ll see. I’m just getting the wheels turning… no matter what I do, it’ll be a big undertaking, so I need to give it some thought. It’s funny, with this house, everything is so much more of an undertaking that it’s hard to just make quick decisions like I’m used to! At our old condo, I painted the kitchen in one day. I know this would be a few days or maybe even a week, so I need to be thoughtful about it. Hmmm….
What do you guys think?
