ACCESSORIES: DIY Shell Magnifying Make Up Mirror

For a long time now, I’ve relied on a magnifying mirror in my bathroom to apply my make up. Funny how the regular mirror seems so far away the older I get. In my bathroom, I have a nice swing arm magnifying mirror but I also have a variety of handheld versions. I found this small 4 inch mirror in one of my make up bags and decided to give it a little facelift.

This shell mirror would make nice gift. All you need is a cheap drugstore mirror and a bunch of shells. I collected these shells at the local beach.

To apply the shells, I used a hot glue gun. You can use a more permanent type glue like E6000 for even better results but you’ll need to wait between layers of shells for the glue to dry.

Pick out your smallest shells and start gluing them around the outside edge of the mirror. Don’t worry if parts of the mirror show through, you’ll be layering the shells to cover up the plastic edge.

Keep adding shells saving the prettiest ones for the top layer.

The nice thing about this little mirror is that it has suction cups on the back so I can hang it on my bathroom mirror or near my jewelry box in the bedroom. Seriously, it’s even getting hard to clasp jewelry.
