DIY weatherproofing/waterproofing USGI Military Denier Cordura Gear-MOLLE Sustainment Pouches

As you may or may not know, the USGI Military Denier Cordura Nylon bags/pouches are one of the most usefull pieces of gear ever put out. They already put a weatherproof polyurethane coating on the inside of the bag at the factory, which is great. I just wanted to improve/modify the pouch so it would repel rain water immediately, and in turn creating a more mildew resistant bag.

I also wanted to keep the project in a budget; so between a single military sustainment pouch and 1 can of Plasti-dip, I spent less than 15 bucks! That’s not too bad considering I’ve now got one of the most rugged pieces of camping equipment ever made.

These pouches are an ideal survival/bug out item that can easily attach via MOLLE to most military packs, including the Rifleman pack, the ILBE pack, the Patrol pack, etc. You can even put paracord through the molle of a sustainment pouch and use it all by itself as a small stand alone backpack. Use them for dump pouches. Even for the leisurely camping trips, this is an excellent idea for a cargo bag. My intitial reason for upgrading these bags was to make for a durable, rugged and weatherproof pannier set for my bicycle.
