Summer Sampler 2018 – Milan Block

Good morning! Care to spend the day in Milan? This week’s Summer Sampler 2018 block is Milan by Debbie Jeske of A Quilter’s Table, inspired by that city’s beautiful cathedral.

This block has a lot of small pieces to cut, but the design is really layered and dimensional. I love the interlocking-chain look of it, and piecing it is a fun change from the foundation paper-piecing we’ve been doing most of the summer. This is a block that I would love to try as an all-over pattern … and I think it would be especially cool set on point!

This week’s tip: With so many little pieces, it’s easy for this block to get real wonky, real fast. LOL. With a block like this, I think accuracy really starts with cutting! Any little variance when cutting your pieces, and you could lose the nice straight geometry that makes this block so lovely. So take your time while cutting this week, and do whatever you need to do to keep those seams straight and a scant 1/4″! And remember, even if your block does come out a little wavy or wonky, once it’s quilted up, nobody will notice anyway! : )
