I have a mile high mountain range between me and the ocean, it’d have to be one heck of a wave to crest the Cascades. Which did not involve a direct hit of the wave itself, but of the water circulating in land, killing 14,000 thousand people and washing out several cities.

The thing about the west coast, at least the California coast anyway, is that the Continental shelf drops off and the water gets very deep very close to shore. It’s not the say that it can’t happen because I think it’s ignorant to say anything “can’t happen”, but it is to say that tsunami waves heading in can’t build the huge force and energy due to the deep water that places like Indonesia can.

I agree with srsly1. I live near the coast in Wa state. I can’t stand reports like this. Spread fear is right. I’m a single woman 62 years old and this stuff scares me to death. I am on a small fixed income and have not been able to get supplies together for when we do have an emergency. I need a good flashlight for one. And right now as broke as I am I wouldn’t be able to buy batteries for one, even if they were on sale!
