Scientist Speaks Out About The Dangers Of Mammoth Mountain California

I didn’t know it was a crime to show people harmonic tremors that are occurring in clusters in the rim of a super volcano.

Surely, a harmonic tremor does not mean eruption. But almost all eruptions are preceded by harmonic tremors. And while all the doomsday channels on YouTube dangle the threat of Yellowstone’s eruptive potential for higher click counts one scientist all along, since the beginning has trumpeted the hazards associated with the super volcano known as Long Valley caldera.

What is so different about Long Valley that makes it a greater threat than Yellowstone? Initially, the amount of earthquake swarms and the shallowness of such swarms has always exceeded Yellowstone’s deeper and fewer quake events. The other issue facing Long Valley is that its magma column is creating uplift in a central dome and is not compartmentalized by a complex dike system like Yellowstone’s. Also absent from Long Valley is the complex thermal venting associated with Yellowstone.

The final and most concerning factor is its location. It is located at the central latitudes and far western part of the United States. This location would permit the jet stream to distribute Mammoth Mountain ash across 95% of the United States.

What is most important however, is the actual seismographs and what they have been recording for the last 3 to 4 months. The videos below do a good job of explaining this very real hazard.
