Democracy In Question

The recent failure of Congress to reach an accord that would lift up millions of Americans out of desperation if only temporary has only been accelerated by one Senator and many other members of the Republican party. They have done it by their blatant disregard for the overwhelming majority of the publics well being. This is paramount to a hostile takeover of democracy. When one or two people can and do hold the public hostage by circumventing the public’s will leaves little doubt that we are no longer a democratic society. 

For the past 40 years the government that is supposed to be of the people, by the people, and for the people has morphed into a bunch of self serving bureaucrats. These bureaucrats have shown no empathy for the public in which they are sworn to serve. Make no mistake we have a government now who’s own failure to communicate has ripped apart the very framework of our democratic republic. Not only is congress but in practically every state house around the country we see elected officials time and time again thwart the majority of the publics will.

The documented cases where congress and state houses failure to implement the majority of the public’s supportive measures has only incensed the public’s distrust of government. When the cries of the multitudes continue to fall of deaf ears of government and when only one ore two individuals can literally control the destinies of the majority of the public by way of blocking legislation that would alleviate much of the crisis millions face is the reality of our government today. 

In the short span of 345 years after our founding other countries have adopted the formulas of our democracy. Today, those  other countries have duplicated what our founding fathers established. They in turn have encountered an erosion of democratic principles just like we have in the United States. A global wealth gap has succeeded to corrupt democratic principles to the extent that only perpetuates the growing wealth divide. And, this translates to democracies failure to come to bat for the majority of the public. When so much wealth is in the hands of a small minority leaves little doubt that the majority {the have’s not’s} are being controlled by that small minority {the have’s} 

Today, all across the globe where there are democratic governments too many have allowed the democratic process to evolve into a systematic withdrawal of the democratic principles that were established by our founding fathers. Like the United States governments around the world have allowed wealth to dictate policies that have only exasperated the human crisis we all face today. It is this crisis in governments that are preventing the majority of public from ever being capable of achieving the return of a truly democratic government by the majority, for the majority and of the majority of the citizens of their countries.

When governments act with impunity as we are seeing today in Washington and when the public seems to be inaccessible to legislative policies what recourse can society take to resolve the impasse that is preventing the majority from havening their concerns dealt with without the interference of congressional hijacking the majority of the publics will? Answering that is the next great challenge our society must undertake.
