Water, A Basic Right

Today, agriculture alone uses 70% of all global freshwater. In the United States all of the Great Plains farming is irrigated by the vast underground Ogallala Aquifer a lake that covers the span from southern South Dakota to Northern Texas some 174,000 square miles. The Great Plains became the nation’s Breadbasket following World War II when the technology was developed to irrigate using vast pumping stations from the Ogallala Aquifer supplying the water needed to change the vast open plains to one of the most fertile areas in the world. But so much water is being used now that the Ogallala Aquifer is being depleted much faster than previously thought. If the United States doesn’t provide alternatives to this dilemma the economic impact form the loss of food sources that the Great Plains provides not only the United States but the rest of the world when this Aquifer no longer has enough water to irrigate the fields would be catastrophic. Just think of the Dust Bowls of the 1930′s. That would be the end result if nothing is not done soon to address this critical situation now. A national aqueduct interconnecting all regions of the United States from Alaska to Florida from California to Massachusetts would be one way to ease the shortages that are now occurring across the country.

The amount of money spent each year in supplying fresh water to communities all across the United States should have included increased water quality along with the cost and advancing technologies. Today’s water quality in much of the United States is just as it was 50 years ago. Science, and the medical field, through the technology of today now realize that the water we consume is directly related to most of the diseases that are so rampant today. Like, obesity, cancer, heart disease etc. It doesn’t help that more Americans are consuming more carbonated beverages each day and not consuming enough good fresh water.

The population of the United States is not the only nation affected by the lack of quality fresh water, but we are the nation with the most increasing rate of obesity and other life-threatening conditions. Most of these can be preventable if the availability of good nutritious fresh water was more available to all the population. In 2009 85% of Americans have symptoms of chronic dehydration. 47% have their thirst mechanism so weak that it misinterprets thirst for hunger. A contributor to the rising rate of obesity. Also contributing to the rate increase of obesity and all the illnesses that are a direct result of obesity is that mild dehydration causes the body’s metabolism to slow down resulting in weight gain.

The human body all the cells and organs function best when the PH level is at 7.3-7.5. The western diet that most Americans consume produces a PH level well below 7.0 leaving the majority of the population susceptible to all of life’s problems and illnesses. The best way to alleviate these conditions is for Americans and populations around the world to have access and drink quality fresh water that has the PH levels at the required level. When water has the proper PH the human body is more adapt in removing toxic wastes. PH or alkalinity in drinking water re hydrates cells, increases energy or metabolism, improves healing, weight loss, helps reduce the effect of free radicals and provides antioxidants needed to combat all forms of cancer.

Today, technology can actually change the molecular structure of water. The tap water coming out of most of the faucets now the molecular structure is so large that it inhibits absorption. We now have the capability to alter using ionization to reduce the molecular structure to smaller clusters to increase absorption in the body. The end result is a better tasting more nutritious fresh water with a PH level at 7.3 that when consumed would be more beneficial than any water that is bottled whether it is distilled, spring, or just plain bottled water.

Just think of the destructive impact on the environment that the monumental amount of waste produced by all plastic bottles that are discarded worldwide has. In the Pacific Ocean alone there is a trash pile floating about the size of Texas made up of discarded plastic bottles destroying the eco systems all around. This has to stop, and today’s technology can solve this catastrophic environmental disaster from getting worse by nations incorporating the water systems that produce no pollution while supplying their citizens with the now healthy safe clean fresh water that they need.

Investing over $60 billion would eliminate 2/3 the amount of people worldwide who continue to lack fresh water and basic sanitation. It would be money very well spent saving lives and reaping more than 10 times the initial investment. Providing innovative financing mechanisms for water where over tens of millions of people die each year due to preventable diseases caused by the lack of available fresh safe water. Water more than gold or oil is the one commodity that can bring about global peace by bringing clean fresh nutritious water and sanitation to billions who lack. The nations of the world now have the technology to make it happen. But do we have the will? Let’s hope so for the future depends upon that we do.
