Are you doing due diligence with nickels? As many LRC readers know, nickels are the only real “money” being distributed by the U.S. Government at this point in time. The value of the metal in a nickel equals the fiat value assigned to it by the state. This cannot be said about the currently produced pennies, dimes, quarters, or half dollars and certainly cannot be said about the paper money or the even more insidious and plentiful computer digit money that we are forced to use. Really lame. A 1964 nickel is worth a nickel today but a 1964 dime is worth $2.17. 90.8 nickels make a pound. One pound of nickels is $4.54. $1,000 stored as nickels weigh 220 pounds. How portable is that? 200 dimes make one pound. $1,000 stored as 1964 or early silver dimes weighs only 2.3 pounds. That’s very, very portable. It’s stupid to save nickels. And who would want to take them in trade? $100 purchase would require less than 50 old dimes. $100 purchase in nickels would take 2,000 nickels. Nobody who’s selling stuff would want to accept them.
When I started saving silver dimes they were worth ten cents. NOT saving the only commodity in circulation is stupid.

TOO many are instead doing just the opposite, sitting down and hanging their heads! IF ONE IS AFRAID of what is coming upon the world, it is only because, deep down, you believe YOU HAVE IT COMING to you!
