Mysterious organization the Bitcoin Grant exists on the Internet. They appear out of nowhere and give Bitcoin to independent developers.

Late last year, they came to Yifu Guo, management companies the Avalon that builds and sells «miners», specialized equipment that mining the Bitcoin. Guo was skeptical, but he continued to communicate with the Bitcoin Grant via e-mail. They asked him about the plans for development of Avalon. And before too long, they gave him a gift: 10,000 Bitcoins. Enough to get Guo started on Avalon’s next generation of Bitcoin miners.

Similar thing happened also with Mike Hearn. He is a Googler who helps write the peer-to-peer software that runs the Bitcoin network. Mike got a Bitcoin Grant too.

Nobody knows who these mysterious benefactors. On the website of the Bitcoin Grant says: «Open source, especially, while righteous in its premise, has long been dogged by financial unsustainability. We want open source to become central to how we move forward instead of being a hobby or an afterthought».
