Many communities have now received the shocking news that their Walmart Store does not fit in with the “New” vision for the corporate structure.

How about the impact on communities in the far north like Alaska?

Giving credit to “Juneau Empire Alaska’s Capital City Online Newspaper” writer Sam De Grave captured the essence of what impact this will have in their community.

Downtown Juneau,  Alaska

Obviously Alaskan communities are not shopping meccas with abundant store choices. Also they face high unemployment and to lose 180 “Juneautes” jobs is huge!

Employees as well as customers were shocked and rightfully concerned in the capital city of Juneau, Alaska.

I imagine someone just looked at a map and decided people could just travel a few more miles to another store.

KETCHIKAN, ALASKA Walmart…296.7 miles…18 hours, 56 minutes!!!

KODIAK, ALASKA Walmart…1,256.1 miles…37 hours!!!

KENAI, ALASKA Walmart…1,004.1 miles…23hours 37 minutes..REQIRES A PLANE FLIGHT!

I imagine those times are based on good weather…Right?

Walmart execs. have said they would do their best to relocate employees to a nearby store.

                                    HA! HA! HA!

Hey, Walmart Execs. how about joining our dog sled trip when we try to make a trip to the local Walmart store, say FEBRARY 8, 2016 WHEN YOU PLAN TO CLOSE THIS STORE!!! From Juneau to Ketchikan and remember to double the time because you do need to get back!

First they put all the small grocereries out of business, and then they leave! I would sue them, and confiscate their stores, and give them to the next business that wants to come in and provide goods and groceries to the public!

But, isn’t it interesting how well spread around the country it is! Isn’t it interesting that this comes after the suspicious plumbing closings! Watch out! This might not just be closings! Keep an eye on these “closing” stores!

From a human rights standpoint alone, Walmart should be boycotted across the board. And I am pointing at what they do on a global level- not just USA, Inc.

Great Wall Mart sources many things from China where the slave labor problem is well known. One Falun Gong practitioner who was persecuted in China and forced to make Nike hand bags, Homer Simpson slippers and Xmas tree lights saw them on the shelf at Walmart when she got asylum here. There are also reports of forced live organ harvesting of Falun Gong (http://faluninfo.net)

Another fool focusing on all the wrong problems, and jumping to all the wrong solutions.

Though i agree with you in essence, let me spell this out for you, kiddo:

        1. Nobody forces anyone to shop at a Wal-Mart.
        2. Even if a Wal-mart moves in, people who gave a damn about their community should be buying from their
        3. We all seem to have collectively forgotten that working in a company for an hourly wage / salary isn’t the only way to make a living. Who cares if there is no ‘employment’? Push comes to shove, move out into the woods and start from scratch. Survival turn into farming, turns into manufacturing, turn back into modern society. If they’re not ‘doing it right’, do it yourself.
        4. Government says you can’t do that? Well then, prepare for a civil war, because they’ve crossed a point where they are openly declaring that you MUST live by THEIR rules, and that’ not how we were ever supposed to live in the U S of A.

        Solutions, people.

Though y’all would be getting sick of fear porn by now.

I live an hour from the nearest Wal-mart or Sam’s so what I do is order most everything off the internet. I can get it just as cheaply delivered as I can going to the store. Honestly I believe communities would be better without Wal-mart.

Walmart chooses to go, opens doors for smaller stores.

      Alaska Walmart?
      Never trust Walmart

It’s a faceless phyco conglomerate named vanguard

The Waltons don’t have a controlling interest of stock holdings.

      They just collect dividends.

Stereotypical response from liberals. I’ve seen this before, like when the U.S. pulled all its bases out of the Philippines in the early 1990′s. The Filipinos wanted the bases out of there, NOW. So, we closed them, cut the fences off flush with the ground, and shipped them out on frigates. It wasn’t a month later and they were suing the U.S. for destroying their economy. YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!

Ok, for all those liberals crying about ‘Walmart came in, made profit, and then left hurting our towns’ I reply, ‘call on some of your millionaire, billionaire bleeding heart liberal friends, have them start up a few stores for you, and show Walmart how you can support your own.’ WON’T HAPPEN! Liberals don’t know how to run a sustenance store (coffee shop, yes; deli, yes; general store, no).

Another example of a welfare community mindset. A conservative area would have someone with decent credit going to the bank, starting up a commercial account, getting an SBA loan to start their own general store, and taking advantage of Walmart’s departure. A liberal area will make this a grassroots movement, demand the government either strong-arm Walmart not to leave, or if they can’t, then demanding more money in their monthly checks. If you want to see the real difference between conservative behaviors and liberal ones, this is the heart and core of it all.

Wall Mart is a business, not a charity or a public service. You cannot have your free enterprise and then complain when these free enterprises decide to close your stores. I feel sorry for those affected but everyone should have thought about the consequences of ignoring all the mom & pop stores because you wanted your stuff now and wanted it cheap.

Those people aren’t missing much. Maybe a Target store can open up in their stead.
