Does This Make Any Sense???

A major effort was made to eliminate “On Call Scheduling” that many retail establishments were using. It was very disruptive to employees to schedule their lives around the whims of volume fluctuations of consumers and the retail establishment needs to have sufficient staff at “peak” times.

So what do we have now?

Revised On Call Scheduling!   

Employees are not  receiving sufficient scheduled hours.  As a result they are being encouraged and reaching out to other employees of the retail outlet to arrange their own hours in an attempt to earn enough hours to meet the minimum required to qualify for health insurance.   Really the only time they are required is for peak hours of customer demand.

To the point:  242,000 new jobs in February, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, might be true. We should be questioning How these jobs are being created.  

Retail establishments are hiring more employees but there is still the same defined number of hours allotted per store. So in reality there are more employees competing for this defined pool of hours. 

Does it make any sense that the report highlighted retail trade growth?   

Who purchases much in January and Febrary after the holidays? One would expect spring retail growth. People purchasing gardening supplies, plants, clothing, fishing gear, camping equipment, exterior home renovation projects, ect.
