Yahweh (1)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I notice that more and more worship songs are using the name Yahweh to describe our God. I like that trend.

God told Moses his name when he met him beside the burning bush in the dessert near Mount Horeb. He told Moses to go back to Egypt and rescue his people. Moses was not sure he would be welcome, so he asked for God’s name.

Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”

God said to Moses, “I am who I am (or I will be who I will be). This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The YHWH the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you’ (Ex 3:13-15).

Moses was sent to Egypt on behalf of a God named YHWH. The people of Israel would know he was different from the gods of Pharaoh and the gods of Canaan. Moses was sent by God of their forefather Abraham, who wanted to rescue them.

In the next verse, God said something important that we have forgotten.

This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation (Ex 3:13-15).

God said that he wanted to be called by the name YHWH forever, from generation to generation. Despite this instruction, God is hardly ever called by his name these days.

In about the second century BC, the Jews decided that the name of God was too holy to be spoken. They started referring to him as “Lord”. In Hebrew manuscripts, they would put the vowels for “lord” under the consonants YHWH wherever they appeared in the Old Testament. Then the person reading the scripture would say Lord instead of Yahweh.

The people who translated the scriptures into English have mostly followed the same practice. Wherever the name YHWH appears, they translate it as LORD, in full caps. Most of us do not notice, and just assume that we are referring to God as our Lord. We forget that we are reading the name of God.

But here is the question. Who should we obey: a tradition of Jews from the second century, whose obedience and understanding was patchy, or God himself. It think that we should obey God. But remember what he said.

This is my name forever,
the name you shall call me
from generation to generation (Ex 3:13-15).

The name that God said we should use was Yahweh. I think that we should start obeying him and using his name. If he said that we should use his name, then the claim that it is too holy to use is wrong. The people who go along with that claim are wrong. We should obey Yahweh.

Yahweh or yhvh or whathaveyou are not in the Greek Septuagint which is an older and more concise translation. Seeing as most English bibles copied almost solely from the Hebrew. Which was a problem considering the reformers accepted the vaticans “Hebrew” version with enthusiasm and so the Yahweh deception was started. The Hebrew version is not ancient Hebrew but a herodian script which didn’t come until later. We have no need of mentioning the so called gods of Kabbalism. That’s who yah is. The God and Father of Jesus Christ is the God and Father of Israel. He is called by his children and known to them as Father. No pet names needed. No middle man popes. No antichrist vipers masquerading as the chosen.

that name is too holy for someone like you to use. The mere mention of the Name by a sinner breaks the commandment that says “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in Vain.”

That’s why in Septuagent and New Testament days, the writers used the word LORD.

These days, Jews will say “Name” when reading the tanach, and they come to a passage with “Jehovah” in it.

The first name of God was El which means the Mighty One, even after Moses received the sacred name He and the prophets that followed continue to call God the Mighty One. Daniel called God El Elyon or the Everlasting Almighty One Most High. Yahweh appears to be a name that is more or a regal title; meaning “I am He who was, who is and who is to come” and then followed with The Almighty One Most High as in Yahweh El Elyon.

Our English Bibles translate the word El as God.

The scriptures tell us to call upon His name, to use His name and to lift it up and magnify it. However the legalist that come out of Babylon with the beginnings of what would become the Talmud decided that the name was so sacred that no one was authorized to even speak it. This was Satan because the Mighty One wanted His people to call upon His name, to lift it up above other names and to magnify it, and so also call upon that name in prayer. The scriptures tell us to call upon His name, and He has several names in the scriptures, those who say we can not call upon His name are doing the work of Satan to place obstacles in the way of the truth. By the way, the Talmud is not the word of God and has no authority whatsoever accept among those who have been taught to believe so, if the Jews would be honest with them self they would realize that the Old Testament would be the book that they follow, but they do not. I would say that they should follow the New Testament but they do not believe in that one bit.

Anyways you can find allot of scripture where God tells us to call upon His name, to praise and magnify it. I find that the best way to lift Him up and magnify Him is to maintain the reality that He is the Almighty One Most High in heaven and earth. This reminds me of who and what He is, and the fact that the kings of the earth, with all of their armies and their vast arsenal of modern high tech weapons are but mere grasshoppers before the feet of the Mighty One. So I hope that I can make you see how that this most ancient name El magnifies who He is.
