Prayer for Kings

Paul urges us to pray for Kings and people in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-4), but we need to be careful how we pray. Many Christians assume that electing Christians political leaders or their kings become Christians will advance the Kingdom of God, and they pray for those things. The problem is that political power is an obstacle to the Kingdom of God.

In his letter, Paul told Timothy to pray that kings and people with authority would leave us in peace and tranquillity, and allow us to get on with living godly and holy lives. God wants this to happen so we can get on with sharing the good news of Jesus. Because Jesus is the only mediator between God and man, not a king or political ruler.

We should pray for our own situation so that political powers will not take away your freedom to share the gospel.

Kings always crave for the allegiance and adulation of their subjects. Politicians mostly think that they know better than the rest, but they pretend to believe in democracy, so they also chase after our support. This gives us little authority in their lives, which empowers our prayers.
