The Market Ticker - There Is No Recovery Coming

ADP’s report is out, and it’s ugly, presaging a NASTY report on Friday.

I’ve been continuing my quest to try to keep local places I like in business — eating and drinking out, when I can, if they’re open.  I recognize that this may be an exercise in futility, and I’ll go into why in this column, but I’m going to try anyway.

Yesterday I tried to do that with a place I hadn’t been back to since the lockdowns were allegedly lifted.  They were still shuttered with no sign on the door indicating when it would change.

In the same shopping center was a franchise of a chain I eat at when on the road on a regular basis, and they were open for dining.

Sort of.

There was a greeter outdoors who grilled me on whether I had Covid, or had been exposed to someone who had.  Of course the bar was closed, and all the people inside…….
