Half full? Half empty? Are things getting better or worse?

Yes, 2022 sucked. Market losses. War. Inflation. Kanye West. Central banks. Mortgage rates. Danielle Smith. Wild boars. Nukes. Peak house then a crumble.

Lately permabears and doomer sites have whipped up recession fears and tales of market collapse. But the job market hasn’t been this good in half a century, corps are making bank and equities have rebounded from the abyss. If interest rate hikes stop in a few months, does it mean the economy will grow, or that things are so tenuous CBs have to stop? Hard landing or soft?

Most people, surveys show, are freaked out. But no wonder. We’re a nation of financial illiterates. Readers of this pathetic blog, on the other hand, are presumed to be erudite and educated. So what do you think? Are you optimistic? Or running for cover in the basement fruit cellar?
