Because the economy relies heavily on a narrow slice of the population, it is highly vulnerable. If the stock market experiences a major downturn or affluent households suddenly become cautious with their spending, the economy could lose its primary engine of growth very quickly.

This polarized consumer base creates major headaches for mass-market businesses and mid-tier retail chains. Companies are increasingly forced to either target high-end luxury demands or discount heavily for lower-income shoppers to maintain revenue. While a K-shaped structure can artificially prevent an immediate crash by utilizing top-tier wealth, economists note that extreme wealth concentration can eventually lead to sluggish long-term growth and social instability if the middle class lacks purchasing power.
