Reinterpreting ancient myth is a sacred responsibility.
Over the years Hollywood has exercised its creative license with reckless abandon when it comes to the retelling of ancient Greek mythology and Western history.
They’re able to get away with their bastardization of ancient myth because there’s no constituency that they have to worry about.
If they treated Islam, the origins of Christianity, Judaism, Jesus, or Muhammad with the same disrespect there would be legions of fanatics at the doorsteps of Hollywood executives calling for their heads.
Ancient mythology is their safe playground and they have made a mess of it.
The fact that political and social agendas have tainted this film, with the hiring of a trans actor, is concerning. But I’m sure ancient Greeks wouldn’t be too bothered with that. So why should we?
What’s more troubling is that Hollywood is creating boring trash and this movie looks like another entry into that pile.
Hollywood storytelling has taken a nosedive over the last decade. You would hope certain directors and filmmakers would not be included in that downwards trend. But apparently not.
The last Nolan film I watched was Tenet and I couldn’t make it all the way to the end. It was a horrible film.
Hopefully this one can at least provide some entertainment.
