Michael Oliver has watched markets for fifty years. He says a thirteen-year signal has just broken — and it is the mining companies, not bullion, that are telling the story. The XAU miners-to-gold ratio spent thirteen years locked between 4% and 8.5%. On silver he offers a second comparison, and it is the more uncomfortable one. An ounce of silver is now 1.6% of an ounce of gold. In 1980 it was 6.5%. Copper, lead and aluminium all trade four to five times their 1980 levels. Silver has only just cleared $50. Oliver has stopped publishing price targets altogether.
