Boehner: Delaying a Vote to Stop All the Tax Hikes “Irresponsible”

On Fox News Sunday, Congressman Boehner called on Speaker Pelosi to hold a vote on on stopping all of the tax hikes this week to help end some of the uncertainty facing small businesses and create new jobs. Boehner said failure to do so would “be the most irresponsible thing that I have seen since I have been in Washington…” Watch Boehner here:

BOEHNER: “The American people are asking the question, ‘where are the jobs?’  And if we leave here this week and adjourn for the election without preventing these tax increases on the American people, it will be the most irresponsible thing that I have seen since I have been in Washington, D.C. and I’ve been here a while. …To adjourn without dealing with this means that in their minds the elections are more important than the jobs for the American people and it’s just politics as usual. …They’ve got time to bring a comedian to Washington, D.C., but they don’t have time to eliminate the uncertainty by extending all of the current tax rates.  I think that’s irresponsible.”

Reports suggest that Democrats may delay a vote on stopping all the tax hikes until after the election, guaranteeing several more weeks of uncertainty for private sector job creators. Reuters said Speaker Pelosi “appeared to hint at a delay until after the November midterm elections.”

According to CNN, a “majority of a panel of leading economists surveyed” says “the tax cuts should be renewed for everyone.” In other words, no tax hikes on small businesses.

Even some Democrats have abandoned President Obama’s drive to raise taxes. The Washington Times quoted one Democratic lawmaker saying, “Many of the taxpayers included in this ‘upper-income’ bracket are successful small business owners … Now is not the time to raise taxes on anyone.”
