Boehner’s Bipartisan Plan to Cut Spending, Stop the Tax Hikes – Now

Congressman Boehner was interviewed on Good Morning America (GMA) live from West Chester today and announced a two-point bipartisan plan for September aimed at ending some of the uncertainty facing small businesses and helping create new jobs: cut spending and stop the tax hikes.

Specifically, Boehner called on Democrats to join Republicans this month in:

>> CUTTING GOVERNMENT SPENDING TO 2008 LEVELS: The Wall Street Journal says Boehner called for “cutting federal nonsecurity spending back to 2008 levels, prior to the stimulus spending that the Obama administration championed” – and prior to the bailouts and the takeovers. The Hill quotes Boehner saying this “would save $100 billion this year alone.”

>> FREEZING CURRENT TAX RATES FOR TWO YEARS: According to the Washington Times, Boehner said freezing tax rates “will help settle both jumpy consumers and wary small businesses” who are crippled with uncertainty. ABC News quotes Boehner saying “You can’t have a stronger economy if you’re raising taxes on the very people you expect to invest in our economy to begin hiring people again.”

Boehner’s two-point proposal could be implemented right now if Democrats are willing. It builds on the several solutions Boehner outlined in a recent speech that would help get the economy moving again. Watch Boehner’s interview on GMA here:

As Boehner said today, “if we’re able to do this together, I think we’ll show the American people that we understand what’s going on in the country and we’ll be able to get our economy moving again.”
