Delaware Senate Race: O'Donnell Opponent Chris Coons Restricts Access to Records Just Like Obama
The media is fawning all over Chris Coons right now. The are just as ready to anoint him to the US Senate today as they were to anoint Mike Castle yesterday. Yet what do we really know about Chris Coons. While everyone is busy micro- investigating Christine O’Donnell we hear little about Coons-other than how lucky he is and how he will win.
Well, I don’t know much about Chris Coons either. But a little checking brings up a disturbing trait he has in common with Obama. It seems that Chris Coons likes to restrict or hinder access to public records like Obama. Case in point, as County Executive of New Castle County Coons has restricted access to the public records that county legislators need to make decisions. By Executive order he decrees that all County Board members must make a formal FOIA request, pay fees and wait for records. Of course Coons and his staff have all the free unfettered access they want to County information. It’s just the legislative branch, the peoples advocates, that have to apply, pay and wait. Stated Councilwoman Lisa Diller (Democrat) ” If I need information to help me make a decision, I don’t understand why it shoudn’t just be turned over. I don’t think council members should have to FOIA for anything”.
Some members believe that ready access to information is a check on the executive office. Do we really want a new US Senator that is acting like Obama?
I doubt the mainstream media will ever vett this guy…so how about it citizen journalists and bloggers…are you up to the task. Tell us more…or tell us if there is nothing more…but tell us. Because our media never will.
