NRO Highlights Ohio’s Vulnerability to the Democrats’ Jobs-Killing Agenda

National Review Online explains today how Ohio job creators either have “been handicapped or soon will be handicapped by either the Democratic legislative agenda or Strickland’s own actions” – and highlights some of the consequences for Cincinnati, Dayton, and other cities around Ohio.

… HIGHER TAXES ON JOB CREATORS: “Cincinnati’s consumer-marketing hub would have its effectiveness diminished by the higher taxes that Democrats propose, with local giant Procter & Gamble particularly vulnerable…”

…DESIRE TO SLASH NATIONAL SECURITY SPENDING: “…there is aerospace in Dayton, an industry threatened by the defense-spending cuts that the ideological Left seeks regardless of real-world national-security needs.”

…NATIONAL ENERGY TAX: “Take the Columbus hub’s industry — energy marketing and storage, which in Ohio means coal — and consider the following: The cap-and-trade bill passed by the House and currently being debated by the Senate would increase utility bills by 40 percent, thus driving down energy consumption and no doubt taking down a bunch of jobs in Columbus, too. … What about advanced-materials commercialization in Youngstown? Again, the rising energy costs that would be inflicted by cap and trade would render the city’s struggling steel industry even less competitive globally … it is Democratic policy, not corporate greed, that threatens to ship Ohio jobs overseas.”

…GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE: “Cleveland’s health-technology hub will take a hit from the 3 percent tax on medical-device manufacturing introduced in the recently passed health-care bill…”

At least 601,000 Ohioans are out of work and the state has seen 17 straight months of double-digit unemployment rates. That’s why Congressman Boehner is fighting for a two-point plan aimed at creating new jobs by stopping the Obama tax hikes on small businesses (freezing current tax rates for two years) and cutting government spending back to 2008 levels – pre-“stimulus,” pre-bailouts, and pre-takeovers. And Boehner’s not alone:

>> A survey of economists by CNN found that most said tax rates should stay “where they are. … [A] majority of a panel of leading economists surveyed by CNNMoney.com said that the tax cuts should be renewed for everyone.” In other words, no tax hikes on small businesses.

>> A group of 100 distinguished economists signed a letter urging Congress to cut spending now to help create new jobs.

>> Even some Democrats now agree that we need to stop all the tax hikes. The Washington Times quoted one Democratic lawmaker saying, “Many of the taxpayers included in this ‘upper-income’ bracket are successful small business owners … Now is not the time to raise taxes on anyone.”
