Obama Promotes More of the Same Failed “Stimulus” Spending

President Obama is traveling to Ohio tomorrow – following Congressman Boehner’s speech on how to get the economy moving again – to promote another massive round of “stimulus” spending.

Boehner has outlined five straightforward steps that would help create new jobs now including aggressively cutting government spending, stopping the tax hikes on small businesses, and more – steps backed by a group of 100 economists who are urging spending cuts to get the economy going.

The president, on the other hand, is pitching more of the same “stimulus” spending that hasn’t worked. In fact, since the trillion-dollar “stimulus” was enacted in February 2009, Ohio has lost more than 133,000 jobs and almost 3 million have been lost nationwide. Democrats said the “stimulus” would keep the unemployment rate below 8 percent. Today it’s 9.6 percent nationally and more than 10 percent throughout Ohio.

Despite the failure of the “stimulus,” and despite the fact that we’re more than $13 trillion in debt, President Obama insists that billions in additional “stimulus” spending will “create jobs immediately.” It won’t.

More “stimulus” spending will not get the economy going. And the Obama administration knows it. Despite the president’s promise, one “senior Obama administration official” says Obama’s spending plan “would not have an immediate impact on the economy” (except to drive us deeper into debt).

Officials also “declined to make predictions about how many job could be created” by spending more money we don’t have – perhaps because their previous estimates were so wildly inaccurate.

As Boehner said yesterday, “If we’ve learned anything from the past 18 months, it’s that we can’t spend our way to prosperity.”

Instead, Ohio needs leaders who are committed to creating new jobs – not growing government and adding to the debt.
