Noem: Herseth Sandlin is Working to Create Wind Energy Jobs…in China

SIOUX FALLS – Kristi Noem, candidate for South Dakota’s lone congressional seat, today asked Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin to clarify her claim in a recent ad that she is “working to create…wind energy jobs,” by suggesting that she add the phrase “in China.”

“In her rhetoric, Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin says the stimulus ‘is working for South Dakota’ and she is working to create wind energy jobs, but the reality is the stimulus is creating jobs in China,” said Noem.  “Even some of her Democratic colleagues have been outraged by this fact, but we have not heard a word from her on the issue.”

Earlier this year ABC News reported that nearly 8 out of every 10 wind energy dollars in the stimulus have gone to foreign companies.  One wind farm in Texas was expected to create about 2,000 manufacturing jobs in China.  Liberal New York Senator Chuck Schumer has led the investigation and been vocal on the issue. The Department of Energy has estimated that $2.3 billion dollars in manufacturing tax credits have gone to foreign firms that employed workers primarily in China, South Korea and Spain…

“Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin claimed to have South Dakota’s best interest in mind when she voted for the failed stimulus.  She agreed with President Obama’s claim that it would create 10,000 jobs in South Dakota alone.  Now the stimulus is creating more wind energy jobs in China than here at home.  This is just another prime example of the wasteful spending Herseth Sandlin has supported year after year.  It is no wonder people are tired of the business as usual politics in Washington, DC.  We can do better,” added Noem.
