VIDEO: Boehner Answers Questions from Constituents on Jobs, Spending and ObamaCare

Congressman Boehner recently sat down with Tom McKee from Cincinnati’s Channel 9 to answer questions from local voters about creating new jobs, cutting government spending, and scrapping ObamaCare.

Speaking to the need to end to the economic uncertainty hobbling creators across the country, Boehner said, “What we need to do to get our economy moving is to cut spending in Washington, D.C., and extend all the tax rates for at least two years.”  Check out the video here and key excerpts below:

BOEHNER ON CUTTING SPENDING & STOPPING THE TAX HIKES TO CREATE NEW JOBS

QUESTION:  As someone who is graduating college in May, the jobs market is always a major concern.  What are you going to do to make it easier for me to get a job?

BOEHNER:  “What I’m going to do is to work to cut spending in Washington, D.C., extend all of the current tax rates and get government out of the way so that employers in America will have some confidence that they can invest in their business, hire new people and see their businesses grow.”

BOEHNER ON STOPPING THE JOBS-KILLING NATIONAL ENERGY TAX

QUESTION: Hamilton Casters is a small manufacturing company in Hamilton, Ohio.  We employ 65 people and we make industrial wheels, castors and platform trucks.  Our big concern right now is climate legislation, and specifically what is known as ‘cap and trade.’  To us that’s a big tax on our business and our customer base who are also manufacturers.  … What is your position on cap and trade, climate change, and what would you do to change the legislation in its current form to make it more palatable to manufacturers like us?

BOEHNER: “I’m adamantly opposed to the ‘cap and trade’ bill in Congress, and for those of you who don’t know what ‘cap and trade’ is, it’s basically a national energy tax that would tax anyone in the manufacturing business, anyone who drives a car, or anyone who has the audacity to turn on a light switch.  … It did pass the House, it has not passed the Senate, and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that it does not become law.  …”

BOEHNER ON REPEALING & REPLACING OBAMACARE

QUESTION: The vast majority of companies that we insure at our agency are struggling to keep their doors open this year. … Because of the provisions in the new health care law, we’re going to deliver renewals this year that are even higher than we would normally see.  Isn’t it time for us to postpone the health care issue and put people back to work?

BOEHNER: “I believe that this new health care law will ruin the best health care delivery system in the world and bankrupt our nation.  That’s why I believe we need to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with common-sense reforms to bring down the cost of health care insurance in America.”
