House GOP Freshmen Back Boehner, Urge Senate Dems to Get to Work & Cut Spending

A group of 30 freshmen, including Ohio Reps. Jim Renacci (R-Wadsworth) and Steve Stivers (R-Upper Arlington), rallied at the steps of the Senate today, echoing Congressman Boehner’s call for Senate Democrats to pass a bill to cut spending to help end economic uncertainty.

In an accompanying letter, available here courtesy of the Wall Street Journal, the freshmen write:

“The House heard the calls of the American people and offered $61 billion in cuts, but the Senate has not sent us a Continuing Resolution in return.

“We have received nothing from the Senate except denials of the dire straits of our nation’s fiscal health.

“The House of Representatives is accomplishing what we were elected to do.  We’ve cut spending.  We’ve terminated wasteful programs.  We’ve funded the government.

“The House of Representatives is doing our job…  The Senate needs to start doing theirs.”

Thirty-nine days have passed since the House Republicans passed a bill to cut spending and keep the government running through September.  Instead of playing politics and rooting for a government shutdown, Senate Democrats need to get to work.
