Boehner: Budget Agreement Will Help Reduce Uncertainty for American Job Creators

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Last night the House Appropriations Committee posted the text of last week’s budget agreement that would cut nearly $40 billion in government spending through September, keep the government running, and help end economic uncertainty so businesses can start hiring again.  The agreement, which will come before the House for a vote later this week, would:

>> Achieve the Largest Spending Cuts in American History.  “The agreement will enact the largest non-defense spending cut in dollar terms in American history, and the biggest overall reduction since World War II, beginning the process of ending the Washington spending binge that is causing uncertainty for American job creators.  Subject to Congressional Budget Office (CBO) scoring, the agreement has a reduction in spending of nearly $40 billion compared to Fiscal Year 2010 enacted levels.” (San Francisco Chronicle, 4/12/11)

>> Save Hundreds of Billions of Dollars Over the Next Decade.  “That $38.5 billion will snowball to hundreds of billions in savings in decades to come as the budget baseline is lowered.” (Investor’s Business Daily, 4/11/11)

>> Officially end Washington’s “stimulus” spending binge.  “Emboldened by last fall’s election victories, fiscal conservatives have changed the debate in Washington.  The question no longer is whether to cut spending, but how deeply.  Rarely mentioned is the idea of higher taxes to lower the deficit.” (Associated Press, 4/12/11)

>> Ban Taxpayer Funded Abortions in D.C., Secure Up-or-Down Vote to Defund Planned Parenthood in Senate.  “The House got an agreement out of Harry Reid and the White House to prohibit taxpayer funding for abortions in the District of Columbia, and to allow a vote in the Senate over Planned Parenthood funding (and ObamaCare).” (National Review, 4/10/11)

>> Eliminate Funding for President Obama’s “Most Offensive” Czars.   “President Obama will give up four of his famous White House ‘czars’ under the spending deal he cut with Congress Friday night.  The bill prohibits the White House from spending money on the policy ‘czars’ for health care, climate change, the auto industry, and urban affairs.  Obama has used the positions to appoint top advisers without putting them through the Senate confirmation process, and that, in turn, has angered Republicans who want high-ranking public officials to be vetted by Congress.” (Politico, 4/12/11)

>> Offer New Tools in the Fight to Repeal ObamaCare.  “It requires numerous studies that will force the Obama Administration to reveal more about the impact of its government takeover of health care, including a study on the premium impacts for individuals and families as a result of certain Obamacare mandates… More importantly, the final agreement includes a guarantee that the Senate will vote on a measure which if enacted will de-fund all of Obamacare.  This will be the first time the Senate has had to vote on defunding Obamacare.” (San Francisco Chronicle, 4/12/11)

Backing the budget agreement in an Op-Ed in yesterday’s USA TODAY, Congressman Boehner said this agreement is the first step toward tackling the larger fiscal challenges facing our nation:

“The agreement will reduce government spending by $38.5 billion over the next few months — and by hundreds of billions of dollars in the coming decade. … But the agreement is far from perfect, and we need to do much more if we’re serious about creating new jobs, fixing our spending-driven debt crisis, and ending the uncertainty that continues to plague our economy.  That’s why this week, we’ll advance our fight from saving billions of dollars to saving trillions of dollars as we turn our full attention to the GOP budget outlined by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., aptly titled ‘The Path to Prosperity.’”
