Pompeo Lays Out Vision for Kansas in Third and Final Debate

Todd Tiahrt argues: “You have no proof of that. I have never lobbied.”

WICHITA—Last night, Rep. Mike Pompeo advanced his common sense conservative vision for Kansas during his third debate with Todd Tiahrt on “The Gene Countryman Show” on KNSS 1330.

As in previous debates, Rep. Pompeo discussed his consistent opposition to Obamacare, his successful legislation that will encourage the growth of jobs in Kansas aviation, and his conservative fight against Washington spending.  “My vision is a smaller, more humble federal government where we don’t take your money to Washington—we leave it in your pockets,” Rep. Pompeo said. “I think it makes sense.”

Mr. Tiahrt, however, argued about the technical definition of lobbying, disputing whether that definition included his “government relations” consulting work that relied on his Washington insider connections.  The accusation stems from public financial disclosures that reveal the majority of his clients to have been companies that benefited from taxpayer-funded earmarks that he obtained while a Member of Congress.  That disclosure is here, which shows that in one instance, Mr. Tiahrt received nearly half a million dollars from Neumann Energy Systems, which received a Tiahrt-sponsored earmark.

He then went on to lay out his Washington-style approach of picking winners and losers to create jobs.  He also continued to mislead on his record that supports amnesty, parts of Obamacare, and a federal takeover of America’s schools.  He also repeated attacks that independent news outlets and political experts have already debunked as “beyond a stretch of the truth.”

“Listeners understand that Mike is the right choice because of his steady, pro-Kansas approach to getting Washington out of the way,” said Jim Richardson, campaign manager for Pompeo for Congress. “During this debate, Kansans heard Mike calmly fend off bizarre and already debunked attacks from someone who’s just desperate to get back to Washington to spend Kansans’ money.”
