The statists in D.C. are back at it again, trying to destroy one of the last remaining obstacles to runaway government with their one-party rule. They simply cannot help themselves, even if it costs the “centrists” in their ranks an election in the very near future. They’ve proven — especially on this issue — they do not think beyond the current year. Because the filibuster is one of the few roadblocks on liberty’s side, it should be no surprise the Democratic caucus is looking to throw it on the scrap heap for good — meaning there would be nothing in the way of their far-left agenda. Minority (formerly majority) Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who still has a modicum of power left in the Senate said yesterday, a filibuster-less Senate “would be more like a 100-car pileup.” McConnell’s prediction sounds accurate, but he left out the part where he helped fill the gas tank! McConnell had a golden opportunity to guarantee the filibuster remained in place before he handed control of the Senate over to Sen. Chuck Schumer. Instead, McConnell took Schumer’s word, and now we are on the brink of the filibuster being completely destroyed. What would it mean if the filibuster was eliminated in 2021?

This has been an ongoing fight since the new Democrat-controlled (by tiebreak) Senate took office in January, and we cannot afford to rest. Congress was not designed by our founders to be a simple rubber stamp for the controlling party’s most radical agenda. Sign the petition to save the Senate filibuster! By completely stripping away the filibuster — which is already weakened — we’re likely to see wild and dangerous swings from our lawmakers and many unintended consequences that I suspect the Democrats will regret just a few years from now. Because two Senators, Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), have held up changes to the filibuster, the radical left, led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his henchman Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), appear to be forcing their hand by rushing their biggest priority legislation to votes in order to bend their will on eliminating or severely weakening the filibuster rules. Manchin and Sinema are both being barraged from far-left contingencies to give in and support the gutting of the filibuster. Manchin appears to be softening to the point where he may be willing to compromise away a big chunk of what’s left. I’m afraid this tactic just may work! We must save our Republic from turning into a complete tyranny of the majority party. You’d think the Democrats would have learned their lesson after their last change that weakened the filibuster. That didn’t work in their favor after the Republicans took control of the Senate just a year later. When Republicans took control of the Senate after the 2014 election, the Democrat’s own changes to the filibuster were used against them and eventually cost them the chance to stop three of Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominations. Now Democrats seem poised to prove to everyone that they cannot be bothered to learn from their own mistakes, even if they were just made a few years ago. They simply can’t help themselves when presented a flurry of leftist expansions to big government that will create a lot of hardship … for everyone else! Sign the petition to save the filibuster! The filibuster is an important part of the checks and balances to keep runaway power at bay. That’s why it’s been such a big target for years. The Senate filibuster has been an indispensable tool in stopping some of the worst big government power grabs over the years, including Cap and Tax, which would have driven energy costs through the roof, a National Gun Registration, and the so-called “Disclose” Act, which would have destroyed free speech for organizations like this one.
