La. Sinkhole: Salt Dome Cavern Dropped 31 Feet
The failing cavern in Louisiana’s collapsing salt dome sinkhole, now a lake of toxic stew, dropped another 32 feet, according to officials who say they obtained that information from the company blamed for the disaster.
“Texas Brine reported to us that Oxy Cavern 3 floor has dropped another 32′ since last Friday’s tagging,” Assumption Parish officials stated on their blog early Saturday afternoon.
This recent drop added to the rest of amount the cavern has fallen over the past two weeks equals 61 feet.
That now gives 161′ left unfilled, according to officials.
“It is unknown why this is occurring now, but weekly monitoring shall continue,” the officials said. “We will continue to post this information as it becomes available.”
Last week, the sinking area pulled down berm intended to keep the myriad of dangerous chemicals from further leaking into the nearby communities.
On the south side of the lake, still referred to as a “sink hole,” an area subsided to include the berm, officials said this week.
Approximately 400 to 500 feet of the berm that is now under water.
“The depth to the top of the berm is 3’9″ at it’s deepest point,” parish officials stated.
They aslo said trees on the southwest side were “showing signs of sinking, some up to 10′ in depth.”
Aside from those reports, silence of late about the status of the expanding emergency area has been as eery as Cajun bayous the energy companies have spoiled.

so educate me, does that mean the hole is getting deeper and WHAT does that mean? i ain’t no geologist! i saw that ‘berm’ being an issue, i mean what made ‘em think that would hold….. anything? once again i want to thank you for laying off TBC, the who and why is absolutely irrelevant now! so what’s next? is this gonna be 30 acres or is it just gonna run slap to the gulf? reports are getting scarce, I’m finding flyovers to be less often. suggestions? lastly, the pics I’ve seen lately show it pretty close to that river. I’m not bayou savvy so i guess it’s a river and i imagine it runs to the gulf, right? this is gonna dwarf any eco-disaster ever, ain’t it?

Morris, the so-called sinkhole has been between Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou – so as it becomes a lake, it is JOINING with those 2 bayous. Those bayous flow into a Lake Verret not far away – and hat waterway – including through swamps – eventually dumps into the Gulf. So, the “30 acre” prediction, in my opinion, is putting it mildly. Deadly chemicals are seeping.No .. way to stop this monster now. That’s been said repeatedly stated by the geologists for many months. It’s a toxic lake already. The whole area is now a sacrifice zone. The humans there are least important to the corporate government.

Well, I had 2 dreams, way before I even knew about this sinkhole, that Florida was going to sink into the ocean. After I had the second dream I started doing research and came across this problem that just only seems to be getting bigger as the days go by. I have even seen the US Navy map of future America. Needless to say, I’m sure that I have put two and two together. So here is my theory. The salt will continue to erode and will eventually eat away the state of Florida. My husband’s theory is that the air pockets in the Louisiana sinkhole will continue to fill and then explode with such force and create a tsunami like effect thus creating what will look almost like the US Navy map of future America. I can only hope that my husband and I are wrong, but as it stands right now…I’m not so sure that we are. My very best advice to everyone is to get away from coastal areas and head for much higher grounds.
