But behind almost every modern industry, there’s a quiet workhorse doing the heavy lifting: the industrial chiller. When these systems fail, supply chains stumble, food spoils, and machines burn out.

1. Actual load. Get a real number in tons of cooling, not a guess based on the old unit’s nameplate. Process loads and building loads both change over time.

2. Ambient conditions. A chiller rated for 95°F ambient will struggle on a 105°F afternoon. Spec for your worst day, not your average one.

3. Redundancy. For critical processes, two smaller chillers often beat one large unit. If one drops, you still have cooling.

4. Service network. Ask who works on the brand locally, what parts cost, and how long lead times run. A great machine with no local support is a liability.

5. Controls and monitoring. Modern units come with remote monitoring that can flag problems before they become shutdowns. It’s worth the upcharge in most cases.
