Chapter 25: How to Deal with a 21st Century American Woman--How to beat the odds

          Okay, you’re stubborn.  You’re in love.  Or, you’re in a­ lust-driven crazed state of mind.  Often times, love is driven by­ lust, more so when we’re young and foolish.  No matter what, ­you’re in its clutches if you absolutely must have that woman no ­matter what.

          If you’re older, you have a better perspective because­ you’ve had your head kicked in a several times by a few Liz­ Taylor types.  No matter how much perfume she’s wearing, you walk ­away!  You’re not so prone to jump back onto a bucking bronco ­when it’s already tossed you off a few times and you’ve suffered ­a few broken bones.  Not to mention your broken heart and wallet.

          If you think you might win a compatible relationship, your­ key to success is: TIME.  WE SUGGEST AN 18-MONTH TO 24-MONTH COURTING PERIOD ­BEFORE PLANNING A MARRIAGE CEREMONY.  Take time to talk about­ your mutual goals.  Do you have jobs that allow you time­ together?  Do you want to live in the same place?  What are your mutual interests?  Do you both have similar sexual needs?  Do you­ want kids?  Who will care for them or will it be shared?  See a ­marriage counselor and religious counselor for more ideas on how well you ­two fit or don’t fit with each other.  A small amount of planning/talking/sharing now will help prevent serious pain­ later.

You’ve heard the old wives saying that opposites attract, ­but we’re here to tell you that is a line of horse manure and balderdash.  If ­you get a woman who likes the opera and symphony, but you’d ­rather go skiing or camping–leave.  If you’re into fitness and­ she’s into ice cream–take a hike.  If she is a sexual iceberg­ and you want a raging bonfire–skip out the back Jack and get a­new plan Stan.

          Remember that thinking through the head of your manhood will ­last for two years at the most.  If you don’t have similar­ interests and sexual drives, you both will be very unhappy given­ enough time together.  Once the crashing realities of daily­ living with each other hit, life can be very difficult with the­ wrong mate.

          Never think that once you get married, everything will work­out.  If you find problems in the 18 to 24 month dating period, those ­problems will double or triple in size over the long run.  If you­ see things are not going in a mutually compatible path, it’s time ­for you to look for a more compatible mate in your life.

          Take time; take 18 to 24 months before making your wedding plans.
