Luke James: Believe The Hype

I usually consider myself to be pretty abreast of what’s happening on the music scene. But last week, I saw several people’s social media timelines filled with comments about this guy named Luke James. The consensus was that he was one of the best R & B singers out right now and how eager people were to hear his debut self – titled album,Luke James.  I decided to find out what the hype was about this Luke James guy and hear his CD to make my own judgments. I can honestly say that he lives up to the hype of the buzz he has created. Here’s why….

Luke James starts off his album with the mid-tempo song “Love XYZ”. The song is produced very well and features smooth, layered vocals from Luke James. It’s a seductive long, like many of the songs on the album. He then follows that with “Dancing in the Dark”, a falsetto ballad with a slight blend of techno pop.  It has a very soft, hypnotic vibe that is the perfect song to zone out to for all of those people who need a little inspiration in their creative spaces…or even if you just want to relax. The only disappointing element of “Don’t Do It” is that it’s just an interlude. It’s bare bones production with just background vocals and live human beat boxing is the best thing of its kind to pour through stereo speakers since Erykah Badu’s “Southern Gul”.
