Sweet Talking Jessie J

It’s hard to believe that Jessie J is already on her 3rd album in just a little over 3 years. I first heard of her with the single, “Who You Are”, in 2011, which was also the title track from her debut album. Then, after hearing her on many features with other artists and “Wild”, featuring Big Sean, from her second album, Alive. So, when I heard her catchy single, “Bang Bang” with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, I had to make it a point to check out her latest release, Sweet Talker. There’s no secret that Jessie J can sing. In fact, she’s one of the most underrated singers out right now in my opinion. But does her music prove that she’s much more than just a pretty voice. Within the first few tracks of Sweet Talker, that question was answered with a resounding yes.

She kicks off the album strong with the first track “Ain’t Been Done”. The subject matter here is actually quite cliché, but Jessie J saves it with her vocal delivery and melodies. Not to mention, the catchy production featured here by David Gamson. “Burnin’ Up” featuring 2 Chainz is one of the best songs on the album. It’s highly addictive all the way around and I even didn’t min 2 Chainz and his remedial, yet comical, rap featured her. I can see this one being a big hit for her. The title track, “Sweet Talker”, was co-written by Jessie J herself and is her sexy plea to be the interest of a man she’s attracted. “Fire” is a rousing ballad that really showcases Jessie J’s vocal ability and control (as if you wouldn’t already catch on to that by this point though).
