The Elusive Yes With Ryan Hobler

Ryan Hobler is on the brink of something spectacular. Not only has he coined a new name for his genre of music, but he’s about to release his introspective, thought provoking and smoothly melodic debut album, The Elusive Yes. I got a chance to catch up with the singer/songwriter in the midst of his hectic schedule to talk about everything including his big break into the music business, creative processes, his first sky diving experience and what inspires him most. His music is refreshing and unlike anything you’ve ever heard before. Such an element is greatly appreciated in a time when the music industry severely lacks individuality and creativity. Here are the highlights from my exclusive interview with Ryan Hobler.

P.E.: How did it all begin and how did you get started in the music business?

Ryan: I was about 14 or 15 years old when I started out in a band called Blue Collar Heroes. I was really just playing around, but I always said I wanted to be a singer.

P.E.: Wow, so you kind of spoke that into existence, didn’t you?

Ryan: Sure, yeah I guess you could say that.

P.E.: What does your creative process for songwriting look like?

Ryan: I like being in that creative space with other artists, songwriters and musicians. Also, I like to be in what I call “getting into the zone”, which often times happens while I’m traveling on a train or bus. I’m from New Jersey, but I live in New York. Usually the melody comes first, musically with an acoustic guitar. If the lyrics come first, that’s a little more mysterious. If I don’t find anything inspiring, I’ll stop, pull away and watch a movie or read a book. Then I come back to it a few days later.
