Cobain, The Commentator (Interview - Part 1)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

You may remember a while back, that I did a review on three tracks from a Hip Hop artist from Orlando named Cobain. Many of you inquired about his music and when his album would be out. Well, that time is here now. Cobain just released his debut solo album (he’s also a member of the duo AtinHut), appropriately titled The Commentator. In between his hectic schedule, I got a chance to catch up with Cobain and get some insight into the making of his new album. Here’s part 1 of our interview. Look for part 2 to be posted later this afternoon Plus, if you’d like to hear the audio of the full interview, you can check that out as well below.

The Commentator is available on iTunes, Google Play and all major online retailers.

When did you decide you wanted to have a career in music? How did you get into it?

First of all, I want to say thanks. I appreciate the interview and all the love. About 2 ½ years ago, I was in the middle of my first term in the Navy. I found a love for it. Got reattached with it. I’ve always been a writer. I did a few songs and got a crazy reaction from everybody in my base. That kick started it. I always had the passion, but it was fueled by people who love it. So ever since then, I’ve been doing my music.

I do remember reading in your bio about your duo, AtinHut? How did that get started?

Absolutely. That’s kind of what I was referring to earlier. Midway through my term in the Navy, I became friends with a guy named Will, stage name William R.I.C.E. Ever since then, sparks just fly. We’re opposite, but we mesh so well. He’s been doing music for a while. He was signed to So So Def. But AtinHut is a double meaning. We’re not a duo or group, we both are individual artists in a group. Also, in the military, “atin hut” means attention. It’s also a play on words as well. Saying a tin hut. We both come from rough neighborhoods and just our perspective of how we group. We both later moved to Orlando, but came from nothing. So AtinHut means from the ground up.
