Hunt for the Arctic Ghost Ship

In 1845, an ambitious British expedition set sail to find one of the greatest prizes in all of exploration, the elusive Northwest Passage, a sea route to the Pacific Ocean through the Arctic Ocean. 

Armed with the latest equipment Sir John Franklin led two ships into uncharted Arctic waters, but both ships vanished, never to be seen again.

There is no other story in the history of British exploration which ends as tragically as this one. A total of 129 men simply disappeared off the face of the Earth, seemingly without a trace. Over time, significant clues have been found. These include bodies discovered in the ice, unexplained sightings of a mysterious ghost ship and even signs of cannibalism, but without the ships themselves, this 1845 lost expedition remains one of the world’s most enduring maritime mysteries.

In 2014, archaeologists mounted one of the largest modern searches for the wrecks. By combining 21st century technology and including previously dismissed eye witness accounts, these archaeologists made an astonishing discovery. After more than a century of searching, one of Franklin’s lost ships is coming back from the dead, and this film gives us exclusive access.
