Guide to Recognize a Fraudulent Casino Site

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Before you can build a land-based casino, you have to wade through political hoops. You must also pass through multiple government standards, and only the big firms will ever get a license. It does not work that way for an online casino. It is easier to get a license for an online gaming facility. The barrier to entry is so low that unethical business practitioners found their way into the industry.

How do you spot the bad ones? Today, we will show you a guide to recognize a fraudulent casino site and more. This guide should help you decide if the online casino you are looking at is likely fraud or not.

The Casino Has No Published License

There are international laws about gambling, and casinos are expected to comply with these rules. The first law is to have a license. Any legitimate casino must have one, which they can get from different countries.

The most common licensing body is the UK Gambling Commission. Here are some more:

  • • Government of Italy
  • • Government of Gibraltar
  • • Government of Cyprus
  • • Nevada Gaming commission
  • • Government of Curacao
  • • Government of Malta

As you can see, there are many governments that issue licenses, and each government is responsible for providing oversight to the casinos they issue licenses to. If a gambling site has no license, you will never know who owns it, and there is no one who can be held accountable for its errors.

The Casino Has an Expired License

Licenses expire. An online casino may have a license number displayed, but it is your duty as a player to validate if this license is still valid.

If the establishment says that the license came from the UK Gambling Commission, go to the UK Gambling Commission’s website and then search for the license number. It should show you whether the license is valid and when it is expected to expire.

If the website no longer has this service, send the organization an email and wait for their response. If the license is valid, you can go ahead and play. If not, walk away, no matter how lucrative the offers are.

The Casino Is Not Accredited

There are many third-party watchdogs in the gambling industry, such as GAMECARE and eCOGRA. Legitimate casinos join these organizations as members. In exchange, these organizations check the games and determine if they are fair. If the games are not operating within the boundaries of the law, then the casino will not get a certification from these organizations.

Why should you trust these organizations? These groups are advocates of gaming fairness. They are not for profit, and they want to serve the gaming community. They really have nothing to gain by issuing certificates—the only thing they want is to ensure that players like you are protected.

Some of these organizations are business, which is expected by their respective governments to assess games and casinos independently. An example of this is eCOGRA, also known as eCommerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance.

It has been around since 2003, and it is based in the UK. It is an independent testing laboratory where the game is inspected. If a game is eCOGRA-approved, it just means that the game is not rigged and that it is fair.

The Casino Has Few Deposit Options

If you see PayPal as a deposit option, it is a good sign. PayPal rarely works with casinos, so a gambling site that can take PayPal as payment must be legit.

Fraudulent casinos mostly only accept payments and release withdrawals via credit cards. Why? It is easy to defraud people if they use their cards. Operators of fraudulent casinos also try to mask their identities, and this is why they do not allow the bank to bank transfers. Since there is no bank to bank transfer, how will you identify them?

The lack of banking details should also tell you that the casino has no legal entity whatsoever. Typically, a casino is owned and managed by a corporation, and this corporation has the names of the shareholders. In a legal establishment, the shareholders are held accountable for many things—fraud cases, taxes, legal compliance, and so much more. If the casino doesn’t reveal its legal entity, it must be a fraud.

The Casino Has Ridiculous Rules

Always read the terms and conditions of a casino, most especially so for the bonus rules and withdrawal rules.

Here are some examples of rules that should raise a red flag:

  • • Bonuses that are impossible to cash out
  • • Withdrawals that take too long
  • • Withholding of cash that came from you for whatever reason

If a casino requires 100x wagering requirement before you are allowed to cash out, this is a predatory casino that does not really want you to make money off of a bonus.

If a casino takes more than seven business days to process your withdrawal, especially for a legitimate win that came from your money, it is the one that is trying to hold on to your money—they want you to get so impatient that you would rather play the money on gambling gain.

Some casinos also hold on to a player’s cash. For example, let us say that you deposited money, and the casino will not allow you to withdraw it unless you met some conditions—this is a predatory behaviour which forces players to gamble their money away.

Players who made a deposit must be able to withdraw their own money at will. If not, then you are dealing with a fraudulent establishment.

Summary

Always protect yourself. Fake online casinos masquerade as the real deal, and they may even offer you free online slots. They can even convince major game developers to work with them. By the time you realize it, your money is gone. A fraudulent casino will not stop at unethical practices—they will also rig their games, and exercise predatory behaviour whenever you make a deposit.

They will offer unbelievable bonuses, and yet make these bonuses difficult to profit from. If it is too good to be true, then it probably is. Always read the terms and conditions. If the rules are ludicrous, walk away and look for another one.

Gambling is a risk, but gambling with a fraudulent site raises this risk exponentially that you are guaranteed to lose.

I like playing casino games, especially roulette and slots. I don’t use many sites. Moreover, I play mostly on my iPad using Mr. Bet online casino app. I agree that there is a great amount of scam sites among online casinos, so your post is very useful for me, and I’m sure, for all gamers here. I’ll use it as a guide when choosing a site to play. Thanks a lot!
