4 Tips on How to Make News Browsing on Your Phone More Effective

After all the predictions about the destruction of traditional media, such as newspapers and magazines, this has finally happened, but only up to a point. One of the big problems in this new age of the internet is not the finding of information, but that there is too much information, so the problem shifts to filtering.

And this is true both for traditional information about a company or a product and for news.

In reality, the myth of free information produced from below clashes with the opposite problem: that there is no longer any such thing as the quality and truthfulness of news, and this means that we who benefit from this flow of information must, in one way or another, invest precious time in sifting through the data. And above all, we have to learn how to optimise our most important resource, namely our time, which is the most challenging task.

1 – Learning Self-Control

A smartphone opens up horizons that were unthinkable just a few years ago. It is a powerful tiny computer that we can use to do almost anything and everything. For example, you can use a smartphone to connect with the office, exchange data and take part in a group video meeting, contact your friends on social media, send them the latest photo of your cat, or take a break during the day, log on to an online game portal such as 32Red Casino and spend some time playing the 100-plus slots on the site, or the other casino games while you are lounging on the sofa of your living room. Easily and transparently with a few clicks on the casino website.

It is so easy and convenient to switch seamlessly between these apps and websites on your smartphone. But if you don’t have good self-control, you risk being distracted by a notification that might arrive at that very moment and losing sight of what you were doing before.

In short, to do good news (or other) searches, you need to concentrate on doing just that, excluding any different topic or prompt. You will find that you have completed more tsks a lot faster and much more efficiently at the end of the day by opening and closing the individual tasks in sequence.

2 – Using a VPN

Until yesterday, a VPN seemed like something only useful for hackers. Nowadays, however, it proves essential to protect your privacy and gain access to a wealth of information that we would otherwise not be able to access.

The news we find in our feeds and searches is often geolocalised. They are structured to serve IPs located only in a specific geographical area. And this, however, represents a kind of censorship – or rather, a limitation of the perspective of viewing a news item. Those who are a bit more in touch with certain specific topics often need to examine different points of view (even the most controversial perspectives) on the same subject, and to do so, they need to consult several, often conflicting, sources. And in such cases, the use of a VPN proves invaluable for accessing typically unavailable sources.

3 – Activating a Google Profile

Despite all the privacy laws, we all know that everything we write or search for is recorded somewhere, so it is useless to close our eyes and pretend that it is not the case. And because of this, many turn off smartphone tracking, don’t accept tracking cookies and so on. But in the end, we have to ask ourselves whether all this really helps us or just wastes our time.

Therefore, one of the solutions we have, primarily if we operate online to search for news, is to register a public account on a service such as Google and take advantage of the automation and integrations within the various devices, such as PCs and smartphones (and possibly, optimize the search). Of course, if we don’t do this, we are under the illusion of being more anonymous: but in reality, we miss out on things like the shared registration of queries on the search engine, which in the end helps us get more results in less time.

4 – Teaching the Smartphone What Interests Us

Countless services allow us to retrieve and filter the news and automatically direct it to produce a sort of compendium updated every day. This is what services such as Google and Apple do automatically, with often uninteresting results. Still, if we take the time to configure these services to tell them precisely what news we are looking for, we will significantly improve the quality of our feeds, receiving much more specific and focused results.

In addition, there are specific services that do this. For example, a service like Flipboard is excellent: just tell it what topics we are interested in. It will produce a digital compendium made just for us, which we can further refine by putting hearts on the stories that interest us most. So, the more we use it, the better the result will be.
