The Story on How BLACKPINK was Formed

BLACKPINK debuted on August 8, 2016 with their first album “Square One”, which featured the song “Whistle” and “Boombayah”. In just 4 years, BLACKPINK is already successful, being one of the most popular k-pop groups in Korea.

Being successful isn’t easy, each member had their story on how they got in to BLACKPINK. In case you don’t know their story, here is how each member got in to BLACKPINK

Jisoo

Jisoo was born on January 3, 1995 in Gunpo, South Korea. In an early age, she was already known for her natural beauty. Jisoo said that she comes from a family that loves music. So her parents encouraged her to learn how to dance and sing.

Jisoo ended up auditioning and becoming a trainee for YG entertainment in 2011. Not only YG is interested in Jisoo, a SM entertainment scout once offered Jisoo to join their company but Jisoo still chose YG entertainment. Pre-debut Jisoo has been seen in dramas, music videos, and many more. After five years of training, Jisoo finally debuted as the main vocalist and visual of BLACKPINK.

Jennie

Jennie was born on January 16, 1996 in Seoul Capital Area, South Korea. She then moved to Auckland, New Zealand for her education. Jennie learned 3 languages, english, korean, and japanese.

After going back to Korea, Jennie started going to singing and dancing lessons from age 14 until she joined BLACKPINK. After almost 6 years of training with YG entertainment, Jennie had a nickname “Princess of YG”. In 2016, Jennie finally debuted as the main rapper and lead vocalist of BLACKPINK.

Rosé

Rosé was born on February 11, 1997 in Auckland, New Zealand, but Rosé would spend her formative years in Melbourne, Australia. From a very young age, Rosé loved singing but she was lacking confidence but she kept singing because she enjoys it. She did gain some confidence after she joined her church choir.

In 2012, her father found out that YG entertainment is hosting an audition in Sydney, Australia. She passed the audition and ranked first among the other 700 singers and dancers. Rosé then flew to Korea and trained for four years with the other members of BLACKPINK. Rosé debuted as the main vocalist and lead dancer of BLACKPINK.

Lisa

Lisa was born on March 27,1997 in Bangkok, Thailand. The name Lisa or Lalisa isn’t actually Lisa’s birth name, her real birth name is Pranpriya. Lisa changed her name after meeting a fortune teller in Thailand saying that she will find more luck with the name Lalisa. Having a passion for dancing, Lisa has been taking dance lessons since she was 4.

YG entertainment went to host a audition in Thailand in 2010. Lisa auditioned and passed. Not only she passed, she was the only one who passed the audition out of the other 4000 singers and dancers. Moving to Korea was difficult for her because she had to learn how to speak and write korean. She did get some help from the other members. In 2016, Lisa finally got to fulfill her dream by becoming a k-pop idol. She debuted as the main dancer and lead rapper of BLACKPINK.

A path to success is never easy. Even BLACKPINK have faced hardships on their journey, but they never gave up. and because of that, they are one of the most popular and successful k-pop groups in Korea.
