McLaren P1 Hybrid Hypercar Gets Jay Leno’s Review (VIDEO)

Jay Leno’s obsession with automobiles is well known, and the latest addition to his garage is this McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar, star of Leno’s latest YouTube segment. It took Leno just a week to rack up 1,000 miles on his new P1, and with the McLaren CEO on hand, Leno digs deep into the technological prowess of this impressive machine.
The heart of the McLaren P1 is a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8, paired with two powerful electric motors and a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. The engine is good for about 727 horsepower and 531 ft-lbs of torque on its own, and with the electric motors full engaged, the P1 churns out an incredible 890 horsepower and 722 ft-lbs of torque. While the P1 is rather weighty for a hypercar of this caliber, tipping the scales at 3,280 pounds, with all that power it’s able to dash from 0 to 62 MPH in just 2.8 seconds.
But why am I telling you all of this? Leno goes in-depth with the P1, and while it’s perhaps not as fascinating a story as the Noble steam car Leno loves, the McLaren P1 is still an impressive show of what hybrid technology can do.
