With the totals from the USDA as 3% of Spring Wheat planted vs 25% in the 30 year average, and corn at 5% vs 16% for the average and descriptions as “despicable” and a “snail’s pace” for planting along with cold damage and drought across the central U.S. states they have described it as the “most stress” a wheat crop can handle. In WWII, folks planted victory gardens as shortages would be expected in time of war. We are still in wars and natural disasters seem to have intensified or at least with more pole in the world on drought or disaster affects all food supplies. And few grow home gardens now with city zoning boards even forbidding use of ones own property, when food is needed If not due to food shortages but to just have some not laced with added chemicals or processed with or sprayed with all kinds of pesticides that are not safe for humans or any living thing…which in ones home garden one can companion plant and have natural solutions instead Many flowers are the right ones for some veggies and lots of info available.. While some are hoarding gold and silver remember it will do little good if there is no food to purchase. Or water to drink.. VOTE and pay attention to local candidates that will reverse the trend and green our cities for human survival. And when your favorite foods are on sale, buy a few extra. but rotate as modern containers often do not last as long as once they did to reduce landfills over time.
