Earth and the Greenhouse Effect

The earth as we all know is our planet and the SUN is widely accepted as our parent star. Hence Greenhouse effect is said to be a process through which the planet’s (this time the earth) atmosphere entraps some of the Sun’s energy (parent star). This leads to the earth been warmed up by the energy of the parent star, the sun. Unlike planets like Venus which is overly heated and probably inhabitable or the Mars which is too cold for survival of humans, the earth is just the right distance away from the sun to make it habitable for humans. The gravity of the earth is strong enough to retain atmosphere thanks to its big size. Atmosphere that would have easily escaped from a small planet like the moon is easily retained by the earth due to its size.

Also, the earth is murky enough and has the right composition which enables it to form the right greenhouse blanket. There is enough water vapour on the earth available for the atmosphere which is due to the earth’s surface consists of 70% water. This makes it possible for the greenhouse effect to be strong enough for producing an average balmy 60°F on the surface of Earth

It is a known and widely accepted fact the greenhouse effect is the reason why we have humans on earth. Without the greenhouse effect, the earth will be inhabitable as it will be too cold in the night, probably colder than Antarctica, and too hot in the day.

Unfortunately the earth and its greenhouse effect is in danger. We have been warned in the last two decades about the effects of global warming. The signs of global warming can now been seen in every part of the world. According to scientist, the temperature of the earth’s surface has vastly increased in the last few years. Reports have it that the temperature of the earth as increased by as much as 1.6 degrees Celsius. Due to this increase in temperature glaciers are melting, precipitation patterns are changing and animals are dying due to the unusual heat.

The fire in the Amazon region of Brazil which doesn’t look like going away soon has continued to pose its own danger to our beautiful world. Only recently a report was released which says carbon monoxide, a well known catalyst of damage to the Ozone Layer, is currently as high at 18’000 feet (or 5,500m).

The earth is becoming increasingly dangerous, and unless something is urgently done, we will all be at risk soon. According to an infographic by Betway, some entrepreneurs are already exploring chances of living on the moon. That will however be complicated with our bone density dropping whilst living there alongside property rights issues.
