Oil and gas wells in SE England
Dr JV has improved his map of oil and gas wells in England and Wales to show when they were drilled. Here’s his blog, and I’ve added his improved map to my post on the oil and shale debate in pictures.
Bishop Hill picks up the report that Balcombe Parish Council didn’t object to Cuadrilla’s proposal in 2010 to re-drill a conventional oil well.
That seems less surprising when you look at Dr JV’s map. A lot of wells seem to have been drilled in Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire between 1980 and 1999. Yet it’s still considered an area of great beauty.
Could it perhaps be that these wells are less intrusive than wind turbines?
