The Freedom Association has been shortlisted for the Brexit Prize
This afternoon the Institute of Economic Affairs announced that a joint submission by Rory Broomfield, Director of The Freedom Association and the Better Off Out campaign and Vice President for Strategy at the Competitive Enterprise Institute – one of America’s leading free-market think tanks, Iain Murray – had been included in the final shortlist for the prestigious Brexit Prize.
The Brexit Prize asks entrants to imagine a referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union (EU) has resulted in an ‘out’ vote and the Government has triggered Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty.
Against this background, entrants were invited to compose a blueprint for the UK outside of the EU – covering the process of withdrawal and the post-exit repositioning of the UK in the global trading and governance systems.
The initial 149 submissions received have been whittled down to a final 6 – with the final judgement being made on Tuesday 8th April 2014. This means that both The Freedom Association and the Competitive Enterprise Institute are in the running to win the Brexit Prize of €100,000, which will be awarded by the Rt Hon Lord Lawson of Blaby, former Chancellor of the Exchequer at a central London ceremony.
